Volunteer Opportunities

Are You Interested In Volunteering With BOF?
Berkshire Opera Festival offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Donating your time helps BOF keep our promise of fiscal responsibility while giving you the chance to interact with our exceptional artists and patrons –
and have a great time doing it!
Ushering and Special Event Help
Ushers help to keep BOF’s concerts and recitals running smoothly and to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for our audiences. Plus, you can join in the fun for free! Responsibilities and requirements include:
-
Making sure the theatre is ready to receive our patrons.
-
Check-in audience members, distribute programs, help patrons locate their seats if they need assistance.
-
Direct patrons to the entrances, exits, or restrooms
-
Assist with tidying and collecting of any unwanted programs and litter after the performance ends
Due to the limited number of usher positions available at each performance, usher groups are limited to two persons per party. A waitlist will be established once all ushering spots have been filled. Please only sign-up for performances you are confident you will be able to usher/attend as a courtesy to other prospective ushers.
Join our Volunteer List to Hear about Exciting Opportunities!
BOF staff will periodically reach out with new volunteer opportunities, such as:
-
General office assistance
-
Artist pick up/drop off from the airport or train station
-
Community outreach
-
Distributing marketing materials
Other Ways to Help!
Housing
BOF is always searching for shared and private spaces for BOF artists to call home during our summer season. Depending on the artist or staff position, housing needs may span from just a few days to the entire months of July and August. Some artists do have stipends available to help offset the cost of living, but as the Berkshires continue to grow as a destination location, finding secure, comfortable, and affordable seasonal housing has become more challenging each year. We are in need of both free housing and access to quality, paid short-term rentals depending on the needs and interests of the homeowner.
If you or someone you know has the ability to accommodate BOF artist or production staff member in your home or guest house during the months of July and/or August within a 40-minute commute to Pittsfield, this volunteering option could provide a meaningful contribution to BOF.
In-Kind Donations
BOF accepts all kinds of donations- even merchandise and potential auction items! We will create a tax reciept for your in-kind donation for the estimated cost of your donated item, so your donation is still 100% tax deductible.
Board of Directors
BOF is committed to a Board of Directors that reflects the diversity of our community, and we welcome your inquiries. If you have a passion for opera, supporting the arts in the Berkshires, and would like to make an investment in our future by becoming a member of Berkshire Opera Festival’s Board of Directors, contact BOF Executive Director Abigail Rollins to learn more.
BOF is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all staff, artists, patrons, and volunteers. If you require any special accommodations or have limitations on specific tasks you can perform, please let us know and we will do our best to match you with duties that meet both your interests and abilities.
