REGARDING THE CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

To Our BOF Community,

Berkshire Opera Festival would like to address concerns regarding the coronavirus/COVID-19.  We share your concerns about this situation, which is constantly evolving. Although we recognize that our festival season is months away, we want to assure you that our Gala Concert and Don Giovanni performances remain on schedule, and we will, of course, keep our community informed of any updates.  In accordance with the mandate put forth by the state of Massachusetts, our administrative offices are currently closed and will remain so until further notice.  Our staff is working remotely during this time and can be reached via phone or email during regular business hours (M - F, 10am - 6pm). Please don't hesitate to call or email if you have ANY questions or concerns!

We encourage everyone to monitor updates from city and state departments of health, as well as from reputable sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).  We have downloaded office guidelines from WHO, and are happy to share them here.

  • The WHO has the latest facts about the coronavirus, available here.

  • A link to the CDC is available here.

Recommended preventive advice:

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly, cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, and use tissues and discard them immediately after use.

    • We have found that singing excerpts from our favorite arias for 20 seconds helps us extend our hand-washing practices to extinguish any germs.

  • Sanitizing wipes and sprays are available at most shops and are recommended for surface disinfection practices.

  • A handshake is our standard greeting custom in the U.S., but there are many non-contact greeting customs that can be adopted through this period, such as

    • a nod and a smile

    • a slight bow

    • a tip of your hat (or an imaginary hat)

  • If you find that you have a fever and/or flu-like symptoms, remain at home and contact your doctor.  Please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same.

BOF will remain in communication with our event venues in The Berkshires to stay abreast of the procedures they are implementing to ensure the safest possible conditions.  Both The Colonial Theatre and The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will be closed temporarily during this initial phase of the virus, but their box offices remain operational.  We will update our BOF community as more information becomes available.

With warmest regards always,

Berkshire Opera Festival
